Our Story

Rooted in tradition and growing with purpose, Harvest Moon Farms is a place where community, celebration, and the beauty of the season come together.

From Humble Beginnings

Billy Williams grew up among the rolling hills of south-central Indiana on a small family farm purchased by his Grandfather, Col. Gene Williams in 1947.

The Williams Family Farm was a working farm filled with flocks of poultry, gardens, crops, cattle, and an auction barn, nestled among the rolling hills and forests along the White River outside of Gosport, Indiana.

Forty years later, in 1987, Billy built a house on the family farm, just down the road from the homestead where Billy grew up in.

A VISION FOR THE FUTURE

In 2009, Billy made his first trip to a farm winery and was impressed with a vision to turn his section of the family farm into just such a place.

Not just your typical winery, but a farm winery that would become a family destination. He began to clear the land to put in an orchard and vineyard with roads and a plan to construct a beautiful barn with resources from the farm.

BUILDING ON HERITAGE

With his background in both the construction industry and the structural insurance industry, along with his strong family ties to the land, Billy set out to construct the barn by hand in 2015.

He purchased a mill and a kiln and got to work. Each beam, board, and wooden shingle of the barn was made with timber from the farm that was cut and dried on site from various species of trees salvaged from the land.

In keeping with the rich family heritage of Harvest Moon Winery & Farms, some of the finishing touches on the barn include an antique windmill turned chandelier from his nephew’s farm made complete with his grandma’s fruit jars.

The barn also features the front door from the house he lived in as a boy.

Pulling back the curtain

Now, in 2025, the farm is ready to open and share with friends and neighbors from near and far.

It boasts a stage for live entertainment, a maple barn for syrup production in the winter, a woodshop, a farmstand, bathroom facilities, an Airbnb, a trebuchet for launching pumpkins, axe throwing, cornhole, and much more.

It is dotted with ponds, orchards, vineyards, blackberry bushes, and a new strawberry patch.

There are rolling fields of hay, corn, pumpkins, gourds, and squash with a forest along the White River at the north boundary. It’s a little slice of heaven on the homestead.
